Jonathan Meese

Jonathan Meese is a German artist, born in Tokyo, and currently based in Berlin. He paints, sculpts, creates installations, and does performance art too. He is a writer on the side, producing both plays and the sets with which they are performed. Meese's paintings mix both personally-crafted hieroglyphics and collage. He often works on a large scale, and combines different forms of his art, usually one form being performance art. His work is seriously based but has a sense of humor to it, perhaps not to "lighten the mood" but because his style simply suggests exaggeration and malformity. His works are very often described as breathtaking, delusional, and funny. He works wildly, as is quite evident in his pieces.
