Installation

I came across this installation art piece which was set in an urban area. In this project, more than 1600 old, used chairs were piled up on the sidewalk of a street downtown. This might also be considered earth work since it is displayed in an open area. I am impressed by this artwork because the massive volume and scale is overwhelming, which is what makes this piece so compelling and intense. The aged chairs suggest a sense of nostalgia and commemoration. Although I do not know the story behind, it reminds me of a museum in Poland which displays piles of hair and shoes from the victims of WWII.
